It's Not Just Sex: What's a Spiritually Transmitted Disease, Anyway?

This is part one of a two part series on Spiritually Transmitted Diseases.

The spiritual realm is all around us, all the time. To presume that we exist solely as physical beings who bear no energetic presence is, and has always been, a massively restricted viewpoint; I believe that deep down, many of us know this. So why is it then, that so many of us— even those who believe in spiritual energy, struggle with understanding the connection between sexual intercourse and the intrinsic spiritual energy we possess within us? Perhaps it is because we do not want to understand, because well, maybe it’s much easier not to.

Only it really isn’t.

Most of us are probably familiar with what an STD, or sexually transmitted disease is, and how one acquires such. However, many of us are disproportionately unaware of the other definition of an STD, the more elusive one which often goes unacknowledged— today we are going to talk about Spiritually Transmitted Diseases, or negative energetic deposits.

The concept of a Spiritually Transmitted Disease is not something that I, myself, just “made up” or created—it is actually a long-standing ideological framework within many spiritual communities, and is spoken about in a variety of ways and addressed by a variety of names. Some of these other names are: “Spiritually Transmitted Demons”—which I feel can at times be a misnomer, as most negative energetic deposits are not actual demons—and “Spiritually Transmitted Energy”, which can be considered positive or negative depending on the energy transferred. Therefore, I have chosen to refer to these specifically negative energetic deposits as Spiritually Transmitted “Diseases”, as this name seems to be the most representative, without being overly specific (think, “demons”).

From a purely scientific standpoint, we know that energy is all around us at all times; in other words, everything possesses energy! For example, if we look to the study of physics, the First Law of Thermodynamics states that energy can neither be created nor destroyed, it can only change its form. In other words, the total energy that exists in the universe will always remain constant, because the energy which is already present is simply endlessly recycled. Think about it, when we as humans consume food, we are taking in energy which we will later dispense and which will be recycled into a new form. But humans are not the only ones who use energy, plants also take in their energy through the process of photosynthesis; and systems engage in energetic transference as well: thermal energy is the name given to heat as it is transferred between two things, for example. These are just a few of the endless examples of energetic processes acknowledged by the scientific community. While the scientific community has acknowledged the existence of energy all around us, and even labelled its different forms, they have neglected to acknowledge the existence of energy within us, our spiritual energy.

Knowing what we do about the prevalence of energy in our universe, and knowing that this energy flows between systems and substances, is it so crazy to think that this energy also flows out of us and into others? I think not.

Basically, at the core of the discussion on STDs, there exists a general consensus, an understanding that in the same way you can catch a physical STD (pSTD) during sexual intercourse, you may also contract a spiritual STD (sSTD). In other words, when we have sex we are taking in the other person’s energy, while we are also depositing our energy into them—essentially the act of sexual intercourse is an act of energy transference. This energetic transference is the same whether the energy being transferred is of a “good” (positive) or “bad” (negative) nature. Now, taking in someone else’s “good” or positive energy doesn’t sound so bad, does it? Well, that’s because it’s not! Sex can be a wonderful and healing practice under the correct circumstances and with the correct person. However, under the wrong circumstances, partners can take in each other’s “bad” or negative energy, and this is what can lead to contracting a Spiritually Transmitted Disease, or negative energetic deposit.

For example, let’s say that someone harbors an immense amount of anger deep in their being. This anger may be easily provoked, or it may only show itself in rare instances when it manifests as true rage. Now lets’ say that this person hasn’t fully dealt with this anger, or made efforts to heal this part of themselves—and as a result, this anger remains within them, able to strike at any time. What we might say then is that this person is housing a negative, unhealthy energy. Whether this housing of anger is due to a lack of a willingness to heal themselves and rid themselves of this negative energy, or simply a sheer lack of awareness and an extreme denial, the fact that this anger is being housed within them remains the same. Anger is just one example of a negative energetic field that someone could be holding within them, others include apathy, hatred, narcissism or extreme ego, just to name a few. Now, when this person or any person possessing negative energetic frequencies like those mentioned above, connects with an intimate partner sexually, they risk passing this negative energy onto that other person. To clarify, this does NOT mean that the person who initially possesses the negative energy is able to get rid of it by passing it along—its not a Sci-Fi movie; what it does mean is that this person is able to transmit or share, their negative energy to/with the new person who did not previously possess it.

At this point, we have established what Spiritually Transmitted Diseases are, and how they are passed along; however, I am willing to bet that the questions remaining on everyone’s mind are, “how do you know if you have contracted a spiritually transmitted disease?” and “how does it manifest within the person who has contracted it?”

I will be discussing these questions and more in my next Blog Post, entitled: “So You Think You've Got a Spiritually Transmitted Disease? Here's What to Do”, which will be up on Tuesday February 25th!
